How do I know if my prescription is covered?

Check the covered-drug list

Confirm that the exact medication and formulation appear in the plan or service formulary. A similar name does not establish that the listed product is covered.

Review drug information and restrictions

Read the medication details and any quantity, step-therapy, refill-timing, or dispensing requirements tied to the prescription.

Compare the actual cost

Check the expected pharmacy charge and any out-of-pocket amount that applies at a different pharmacy or through mail service.

Look for prior authorization or medical necessity

If authorization or medical-necessity documentation is required, the prescriber must submit the requested information before the pharmacy can complete the prescription.

Prescription status

What is the difference between a new prescription, a refill, and a renewal?

NEW

New prescription

A prescriber writes a new order for a specific medication, quantity, directions, and number of refills. The pharmacy may need verification or authorization before dispensing it.

REFILL

Authorized refill

A refill is another supply already authorized on the original prescription. It can be requested while the prescription is valid and refills remain.

RENEW

Renewal

A renewal is needed after the prescription expires or its authorized refills are exhausted. The prescriber must issue new authorization.

New prescriptions

How are new prescriptions filled?

Providers connected to the facility

The provider may submit the prescription directly during or after the appointment. The patient can activate it and wait for processing or return later for pickup when that option is available.

Outside providers

An outside provider can send an electronic prescription to the pharmacy. A written prescription may also be accepted where the service allows it, but electronic submission is generally the clearer route.

Activation choices

How can a new or renewed prescription be activated?

Digital queue or text activation

When the pharmacy offers a digital “get in line” option, follow the mobile prompts and retain the confirmation. Use this for new or renewed prescriptions, not routine refills, when the service specifies that distinction.

In-person activation

Visit the Clinic Pharmacy and follow the check-in or kiosk prompts to place the prescription into the processing queue.

Telephone activation

Call the pharmacy’s listed activation channel, provide the requested prescription information, and record the pickup or processing time supplied.

Refill Clinic Pharmacy service questions

Can a refill be activated like a new prescription?

Routine refills normally use the telephone or refill-service route. New and renewed prescriptions may require a separate activation step.

What should I bring for pickup?

Bring the identification and prescription information requested by the pharmacy and confirm the pickup status before traveling.

How do I start mail delivery?

Complete mail-service registration when required, confirm the delivery address, and then submit the prescription request through the mail-service route.

How do I transfer a prescription?

Provide the outside pharmacy details and the current prescription information through the dedicated transfer request.

What if the request is rejected?

Check whether the prescription is expired, has no refills, is too early to fill, or requires authorization. Contact pharmacy staff through the listed service channel for the exact reason.
